Coffee Tips
Brewing Tips
- Buy freshly roasted coffee, ask for the "Roasted On" date and only buy coffee that was roasted within the last 7 days
- Buy a grinder, once coffee is ground it only lasts a short amount of time 5 - 20 minutes depending on how old the coffee is from its Roasted On date, coffee ground 20 minutes ago will be stale. So having your own grinder where you can grind your coffee immediately before brewing will make a big difference to the coffee you make.
- Experiment, if your coffee isn't tasting right try something different, with your espresso machine you may try putting more ground coffee in the filter basket, you may try buying a different coffee, adjusting the grind, purge some water off the group head for 10 seconds before you insert the handle and brew your espresso or let the steam wand run for a good 30 seconds before you start heating your milk are all some experiments you could try which might improve the coffee you make.
- Try some other old school brewing techniques such as Siphon, pour over filter, plunger (French press). These are experiencing a renaissance at the moment; they all make a beautiful coffee and are well worth learning.
- Try some of the new brewing techniques, these are similar to the old school ones above and have recently come into the industry as a result of the renaissance of the old school brewing techniques. Some of them are, AeroPress, Clover, KONE, mypressi TWIST
- When making coffee with one of the above brewing techniques try and get your hands on very fresh very lightly roasted coffee (just past first crack)
